The Park Feels Like Late Spring

Dolores Park is as close
to Los Angeles
as I have come,
And down to Sixteenth and Mission
There are palm trees
marking a trail of
Grass medians and tile.

"San Francisco is the least claustrophobic of cites," and
you sit on the stepped grass bowl
tumbling with children and dogs
as the sun and breeze play,
Twin Peaks to the East Bay.

Trolleys run down Church to the Slot;
"J Church" Metros and antique wood cars
with eager trolley poles pushing against the wire, they have
"Special Excursion" on their destination signs,
like an invitation to dress for a Sunday ride:
Past Balboa Park, to
the ocean and mountains,
and orchard blossoms
